My SafeTag Mag 1st Gen won't charge

Please check you have a SafeTag Mag 1st Gen before proceeding. You can tell as it has a small, plastic, detachable cover over the charging port and a round vibration sensor protruding from the magnetic side of the device. If you have a 2nd Gen Mag, please use the relevant article. The SafeTag Mag 1st Gen looks like this:

We'll be glad to help.

Can you please try the following steps?

1. If the tracker has run flat, it can take a while for the tracker charging light/LED to turn on, so please allow 30 minutes for the tracker to charge whilst plugged in.

2. Please make sure the button on the back is in the outward position (not pressed in).

3. Please ensure that you're using the supplied cable. It has a longer head to reach into the tracker, other cables of the same type likely won't work.

4. Please ensure that you're using a standalone wall adapter.

5. Please ensure that you're allowing the tracker to charge for at least 6-8 hours.

If you're experiencing an issue where there are both solid blue and red lights when you plug the tracker in, this means that the SIM is not inserted correctly.

  • Ensure the vibration sensor on the back of the tracker is in the outward position(i.e not pressed in).
  • Firmly pop out the SIM and then firmly push it back in. You will need to use something thin to press it in (like tweezers) as it goes quite deep into the tracker. It will make an audible click when correctly inserted.
  • You can also watch a YouTube video of how to reboot your tracker by clicking the following link; https://youtu.be/YVZdZx_BgKg

If both of the above steps fail, can you please get in touch and send us a clear photo of your tracker on charge with the cable and plug visible? We can check that every looks ok.

Please rest assured we'll make sure you're taken care of if there's a fault, just get in touch!
